9 Months in France

Le Grand Micheliere The opportunity of lifetime, a chance to live in another country and immerse yourself in their culture. The Alcatel facility in which I was to work was located in Orvault, a suburb of Nantes. No problem so far, however, before we could decide to live in France for nine months, we needed to find a fundemental Baptist Missions work so we could attend church services. We were given the name of the Visser family who had established a church in Nantes. We exchanged emails to introduce ourselves and bombard them with questions and became very good friends. We relied on their help to get us, well me primarily, out of some pretty sticky situations, nothing illegal mind you.....

So it was for us in St. Brevin Les Pins, a little seaside resort on the west coast of France where the Loire River meets the Atlantic Ocean. Here's a picture of the house we lived in for 9 months.

DissignacHere's a shot of the Tumulus of Dissignac. It is located within the city limits of St. Nazaire and is belieived to date back to the Prehistoric times.

GuerandeCan you imagine having a Castle right in your backyard? Well, the ancient walled city of Guérande was not exactly in our backyard, but it was just an easy 20 minute drive to get there..... Neat!!!, Huh? Inside its well preserved medieval ramparts were narrow cobblestone streets and squares decked with charming dwellings from a bygone era. Entrance to the city was thru one of its four gates, the eastern one being named the "Saint-Michel Gate". I'm not sure which of the gates we have pictures of. You were allowed to drive you vehicle into the city, but, I passed, feeling much more at ease traveling on foot.

Guerande House Now that you have an idea of what the outside of Guérande looks like, lets have a look at the inside. Here's a picture of a charming house that caught my wife's eye, so here it is in living color.

Pornic One of the first French towns I visited was a seaside port named Pornic. It too was an easy 20 minute drive from the house in St. Brévin. Pornic reminded me of Annapolis.
