JOSEPH (JOE) J. LIBERATORE

Executive Producer & Creator
Leadership Committee Chair

A Fairfax Cable Access Corporation (FCAC) volunteer for over five years, Joe Liberatore watched gay television shows such as "Gay Fairfax/Gay Spectrum" and "Inside Outside the Beltway" come and go. Joe, also the host of "One in 10 People," a gay-themed entertainment program, saw the need to create a new program that would fill the void created when that show halted production after only 24 episodes. To fill the need for a hard-hitting gay news program on television Joe started the Gay News Network.

As Executive Producer , Joe charts the course for the future of GNN and ensures that his vision to become the CNN for the gay community is being met from conception to broadcast. He often juggles many roles including a script writer, volunteer coordinator, reporter, publicist and distribution contact. GNN has earned three Telly Awards for outstanding achievement under Joe's leadership and was just nominated for a Gay and Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation (GLAAD) Media Award.

Joe graduated from Marywood College in Scranton, Pennsylvania with a BA in Communications Arts. He also has many interests outside of the television program, such as acting (he appeared in John Grisham's, The Pelican Brief, and Playing for Keeps), Star Trek, Humane Society of the US, Junior Achievement, GLAAD, Human Rights Campaign (HRC) and public television. Joe also volunteers for the DC Crisis Hotline and was recognized for outstanding volunteer of the year.  Joe's latest honors are serving on the executive board of the National Lesbian and Gay Journalists Association (NLGJA) and the board of the short film "Barney Frankly."

Joe has worked for nearly a decade at Fleishman-Hillard, the world's number one international communications agency, where he serves as Director of the Production Department.
