Nifty Cartoon Things

Narbonic. The story of Dave, once a mild mannered computer geek who found himself trapped in a job interview between the forces of Evil (who are very very cute) and good (who aren't necessairly as cute.) but died, rose again, went mad, died, and came back again, and is now living happily after after. Narbonic ended on December 31, 2006; but fear not, Gentle Reader, the fun lives on. You can read the entire archive for free at WebComicsNation, or click the cartoon below to read the Director's Cut (updates daily with commentary from The Author.)

Narbonic also has a message board at The Nice.

Narbonic also spawned a spinoff, Lil' Mell. (updates weekly(usually))

All of the above started out on Modern Tales, which is worth a look in it's own right, and has branched out into Web Comics Nation, Girl-A-Matic, and Graphics Smash. All worth a look.
And now she and Jeffrey Wells have gotten together and are doing a new strip, Skin Horse.

And there's "Smithson", by the same author.
Shaenon Garrity, you rock.

Digger, by Ursula Vernon (Updates Tuesdays and Thursdays) is another GraphicSmash strip.

Not associated with ModernTales at all, but definitely worth reading - Girl Genius, by Phil and Kaja Foglio. Madness, steam punk, and barely-clad women with enormous wrenches.
Also from Studio Foglio: "What's New with Phil & Dixie" and Buck Godot, Zap Gun For Hire. And if you're a fan of Robert Aspirin's Mythadventures, Phil has comicified them, too...

- User Friendly. The story of Columbia Internet, the hardest working ISP in Canada. Or at least the one with the best Quake scores.

Sluggy Freelance. This daily is one of the grandaddies of online comics- it's only found online, and it's amazing how much work Pete Abrams puts out daily.

- Shane Tukker's comics page Another comics collection.

- xkcd. Science! Math! Romance! Stick figures!

-The Washington Post comics section.

Dead Strips:

- Argon Zark. An incredibly detailed webcomic that hasn't been updated in a little while. Yet another webcomic that's been going for years. I thought this was dead, but looks like it's merely comatose.

Dr. Fun had been going off and on since 1993, and is now off permanently.
The Dr. Fun Archives are still available at ibiblio.org, and the author puts up new stuff from time to time.
