Just-a-Rocking
One day an old gentleman visitor went into Neumeyer's for a newspaper. After several daily appearances, he, when questioned, said he was visiting the Sherrerd family in town and further stated that he had not been in town since he was a small boy.
He went on to say that "127" as he remembered it, had a wide veranda extending the length of the building, with rocking chairs lined up along the porch railing, where the town characters would spend the day rocking and spitting tobacco juice onto the wooden sidewalk. He said that pedestrians approaching would cross over and walk on the other side of the street rather than walk in front of the hotel.
The old Wild West had nothing on Haddonfield in
those days!
